Office Volunteers
A welcoming presence
Office volunteers play an integral part in creating a welcoming atmosphere for Alpha clients. Women stop by the office for a variety of reasons, primarily to seek assistance during their pregnancy. It is essential for volunteers to adopt an attitude of understanding and compassion when interacting with clients. Clients will feel more comfortable about sharing their story if they are greeted with warmth and non-judgmental acceptance.
The Barn Ladies
Help sort through: Gifts – Gab – Grub!
Description: Join this fun-loving group of women on Thursday mornings as they sort through donations, display and store maternity and infant clothing, and put together clothing orders for babies up to a year old. Nibbling on treats and catching up on the latest is an important part of this opportunity. Men welcome!
Change for Life
Change the world… one bottle at a time!
Description: Volunteers drop off and/or pick up Alpha Change for Life donation bottles at local churches and businesses throughout San Luis Obispo County. Change for Life takes place between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, with some wrap up and collection of bottles afterwards.
Outreach & Event Team
Represent Alpha in the community!
Description: Work with Alpha staff and senior volunteers at local health fairs, baby fairs, or other events including fundraising. Students will hand out ALPHA brochures, information, baby bottles, etc.
Sandcastle Crew
Spend the afternoon in the sun helping the community!!
Description: This opportunity involves representing Alpha at the beach! On Saturdays in good weather, volunteers work between 2 – 5 hours answering questions about the sandcastle being built by Raul Torres beside the pier in Pismo Beach. Volunteers also accept donations for autographed photos of the castle and provide information about ALPHA and its services.
Reception/Office Support Volunteer
Help our fun-loving Alpha Staff with “everyday” tasks!
Description: Greet and assist Alpha clients in person or by phone. You may answer phones, presort donations (usually on Wednesdays), match donated baby equipment with clients’ requests, take inventory of donations, organize donation room and resource library, and much, much more!
Pregnancy and/or Parenting Educator
Share your knowledge with clients
Description: Pregnancy and Parent Education comes in a variety of ways. Help us develop engaging and informative, age-appropriate educational material for schools and other groups. You can also assist in going into schools and giving informative presentations on a variety of subjects relating to pregnancy, infancy and early parenting.
Fundraising Volunteer
Show us the money!
Description: Alpha has three major fundraising events throughout the year that require motivated and enthusiastic personalities. We are always open to new, creative ways to raise money to help pay for baby equipment for clients.
